NSA Advocates Strong Community Engagement

Abuja, the nation's capital city on Friday, the 16th of August hosted a critical stakeholders meeting to look at the need to take a look at information credibility and to protect  information Infrastructures in other to improve the security sector of Nigeria aimed at winning the confidence of Nigerians and becoming highly wired in international best practices.

The event that was hosted at NAF Conference Centre, Kado Abuja had the captains on the industry and security as well as service personnel in attendance to look at the issue from Goodwill messages to paper deliveries to panel discussion.

In one of the issues discussed, the situations where bandits, terrorists organization, kidnappers and so on, take undue advantage of these information assets is long over due, and stakeholders, were unanimous in agreeing that, it must be stopped.

The hallmark of the event was to ensure a deliberate plan to implement the executive other against willful damage of critical Infrastructures and information facilities in Nigeria, to the extent that Nigerians are partners in driving the process.


Earlier, the National President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Mr. Tony Izuagbe Emoekpere, who doubles as Chief Executive Officer of Anchor Telecoms, had challenged the session to find a lasting solution to these issues and get the sector performing better.

The National Security Adviser, a dynamic and response topnotch security expert, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Dr. Commandant Rotimi E. Onibiyo, appreciated the association, and charged that all hands must be on deck to ensure that our infrastructures' protection is the business of all, from the average Nigerian to residents, noting that, security by the developments globally is now beyond arms and ammunition, but getting the people to be actively engaged. The NSA believes it is time to decelerate the weaponization of issue of unionism, also pointing out the most direct responsibility of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC)

The well attended event, looked at the roles of the stakeholders, from the operators to the protectors and the users, otherwise consumers, emphasizing that, they all have roles to play and must get all hands on deck for a better society,  insisting that participatory initiatives are deeply required.

Some of the participants, who said, they were encouraged by the event, expressed hope that this kind of engagement will be made periodic..
